...ㅤㅤ LEGEND.
The desert sings of tales long past, where shadows walk with spurs that chime, and the wind carries whispers of gunpowder fate. A tall stranger looms, his gait carved by the dust, his purpose sharp as steel glinting under a sun of judgment. Fires rage upon the prairie, not of nature but of wrath, as men chase vengeance on trails where honor and ruin intertwine. The dusty winds howl dirges for the saddle tramp, a soul adrift, bound only by the echoes of distant promises and a weapon drawn too soon. The gunfighter runs, but not fast enough to outpace regret, for justice and sorrow wear the same face under the eternal, watchful sky.
Benjamin Maverick, or "Benjo" as the folks in Santa Fe called him, was born on May 28, 1852, into a middle-class family. His parents made a living as leathermen, and though they weren’t wealthy, they managed to raise their son in a modest home. Benjamin was a quiet child, often seen as mute by others. But the truth was, he simply didn’t see the need to talk much. As he grew older, he became more adept at speaking when it suited him—using words to manipulate and charm those around him. He wasn’t a bad person, but he wasn’t exactly a good one either. His approach to life was self-serving, and he didn’t mind taking advantage of people when necessary. From a young age, Benjamin had a penchant for tobacco, smoking Bull Durham every day, and indulging in alcohol. These habits followed him into adulthood, becoming part of his rugged persona.By the time he turned 24, Benjamin had earned a reputation as one of the most feared gunslingers in the West. His skill with firearms became the talk of the town, and no one was brave enough to challenge him to a duel, especially since Benjamin was known for starting trouble. He didn’t hesitate to draw his guns if someone crossed him.Benjamin had a younger brother named Harry, whom he taught how to use guns and encouraged to take up drawing. They had a bond, but as often happens with family, things went awry. At 26, Benjamin, now a lawman, was forced to imprison Harry after he was caught committing a crime. Harry resented him for it, and when he was released from jail, he came looking for revenge. The two brothers had a deadly confrontation that ended with Benjamin shooting Harry in the forehead. It was a move Benjamin justified as an act of justice, but it caused deep grief for their parents, particularly their mother. Benjamin, however, believed his brother had gotten what he deserved. After years of working on the right side of the law, Benjamin left Santa Fe and moved to Dodge City, Kansas. There, he joined a gang of outlaws, participating in bank robberies. But Benjamin wasn’t one for loyalty, and he quickly betrayed the group, killing them all in a brutal act of self-preservation. By then, Benjamin had become a man who could only be trusted by the cold steel of a gun.Now 37 years old, Benjamin had left behind his previous jobs. He became a mercenary, a gun for hire, taking on bounty hunting jobs for the highest bidder. His face was rarely seen in public, as he always wore a mask to conceal his identity. The mask became synonymous with his name—no one needed to know who he was, only that he was the one people called when they needed someone dead.During his time as a mercenary, Benjamin found himself in a small town where he encountered a runaway girl. He saved her from a dangerous situation, and they quickly became close. The two fell in love, and Benjamin even gave her a modest home. But the life of a gunslinger is never settled, and Benjamin, true to his nature, left her without a word. He didn’t say goodbye, nor did he leave a note explaining why he was gone. The rumor mill in the town suggested that the girl eventually had a child, but Benjamin never believed the child was his, nor did he care to acknowledge it. To him, that chapter of his life was closed.Benjamin Maverick became a ghost in the wind—someone who came when called, did the job, and disappeared before anyone could really get to know him.
